Use Edmodo in the classroom---Make students help each other

On Feb, 15th I set up a group in Edmodo and asked SS to join the group

After reading the passage titled Save the trees, students in groups should  put forward at least one question and answered one of the questions their classmates have put forward

This activity made students try to think critically, and form the concept of sharing and realize the power of help.

However, some groups in which all weak students were in failed to answer other groups' questions. This should be taking into consideration next time when doing group activity again. Maybe it may be better for a group to include different level of students.

Use editing videos in the classroom

Use YouTube editor to cut the 7 min video into a 2 min one.

On Feb 17th,  I used a  short video to show top three places to see in Paris. After watching it, checked students’ understating: taking a  quiz at the beginning of the class

Increase their interest in learning English and help students expand their background  knowledge.

Using Todaysmeet in class 2

On Feb 17th, I tried another use of Todaysmeet.

I used it to check students’ background knowledge of French at the beginning of the class
After watching a video, have students  write anything get about French from the video.

It was a good way to settle down the class as well as catching students’ interest. When students were watching videos, they paid more attention to the content since they had tasks instead of just entertainment.

Using Todaysmeet in class 1

Open a room for one hour and send the link  (e.g. https://todaysmeet.com/ABCD123456) to student, and have students enter the room and type their ideas.

on 13.2,  I used Todaymeet to collect every student’s short reflection towards the end of a class. Students could write a new sentence or one impressing thing  they had learned from the lesson.

It can train students' independent thinking and as everyone can see others’ sharing, they have a whole picture of the class, For me, it is a formative assessment, to check what students have learned.

How to use TodaysMeet

Use Mentimeter 3---brainstorm

Use polling to brainstorm in a reading lesson (write down any words about different part of trees )

It increased students’ engagement as students regarded it as a competition. Every one became  exciting at the beginning of the class, which was a great thing. In the following lessons, it was easier for them to be concentrated.

using Mentimter 2--- Get student feedback on the teachers' teaching

Use Mentimter to get student feedback on the quality of my teaching
Click present---click the QR code ----showing the QR code for scanning

Students give their real ideas and that really help me decide what to keep and change for future teaching.

using Mentimter 1--- Check students’ background knowledge

This video teaches me how to use Mentimter.

How to use: Create questions (open question and multiple choice questions)--- present---showing the QR code for scanning

In my own class, I use it in this way to check students'  background knowledge. For example, after watching a short video about introduction of Guangzhou, I  posted this question in the form of Mentimter.

Instead of asking students who has answered the question correctly and counting the accurate rate, I can easily read this number shown on the screen. Yes, it will, for sure, save time.
